Nothing is more inspiring than locking eyes with a young student who has just experienced an “aha” moment:  that their classroom learning might actually really matter in their lives.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of speaking with fourth grade students at Carl Wilde Elementary School #79.  And the “aha” moments kept happening and kept happening.  And the energy in the classroom was amazing.

I used a series of interactive exercises to share these main ideas with the fourth grade students:

  1. Math matters. Money matters.
  2. If you’ve got money, you’ve got options.
  3. Turn math into money. Turn money into options!
  4. Here are your options: spend, save, give.

“Wealth is not about having a lot of money; it’s about having a lot of options.” Chris Rock

If you are connected to a classroom, grade level, school, or district who would be interested in a high-energy, high-interaction presentation…please let me know.  I cannot wait to share my personal story about the difference that math has made in my life, how math can make a difference in the life of every student, and inspire students to work hard in math!
