You’ve heard it before: introduce yourself to recruiters to advance your career.  That’s a fine idea for some industries, but what if your particular field isn’t busting at the seams with headhunters?

To my fellow fundraisers, I suggest you start paying attention to nonprofit consultants! These folks make a living by knowing what organization is in what transition and what individual is the key decision-maker.

Make friends with nonprofit consultants. Introduce yourself, get to know them, and cultivate that relationship.

Most nonprofits bring in consultants for any major change, and many major changes mean job openings!  You want to be the person that the nonprofit consultant suggests to their client.
