I just received a solicitation call from the Firefighters’ Association. That wouldn’t be a problem for me except that today is the tenth anniversary of September 11th.
I am suspicious of their intentions to call on this somber day. Did they assume I would be more sympathetic to their cause?
I understand that giving can be an emotional act, but I do not think that fundraisers should exploit or manipulate that emotion.
As fundraisers, we work with fellow humans, striving to share stories, share perspectives, and share experiences. It is our responsibility to be present with people, even during emotional times. It is not our job to leverage those emotions for our benefit.
