Question: How do you guarantee a marketing failure?

Answer: Provide the power of veto to every single person in the office and then make them all happy.

Marketing by Committee” results in failure for all forms of marketing – whether it be a print brochure or a facebook page.  The failure is evident:  an unfocused message that is confusing to the audience.

So, what is the solution?  Do we market in isolation from our colleagues?  Of course not!

Solution: Ask for individual’s input.  Explain that you are brainstorming – gathering lots of ideas.  Promise to seriously consider the suggestions.  Clearly indicate that the final product may not reflect those suggestions.

Ta-da: You now have ideas beyond your own by engaging your colleagues with clear expectations!
