Rules – love them or hate them – they are a part of our personal and professional lives. Our nonprofit organizations are full of policies, procedures, codes of conduct, guidelines, plans, and strategies. Generally, we focus much of our energy on following these rules.
But, what about innovation? Creativity? Change? New ideas? Progress? Entrepreneurship?
How do we break the old rules and make new ones – if all we do is obsess with following the rules already established?
Nonprofit professionals, I encourage you to create a workplace that is open to change, provides opportunities for challenging the status quo, seeks out different perspectives, and doesn’t assume that the regular way is the best way.
Please leave a comment with your idea on how nonprofits can be more effective in breaking and making rules – instead of just following rules!
